At this year’s SNAP Conference, “Statewide Narcotics Action Plan: 30 Years Later,” law enforcement, educators and service providers learned how the BCPO, local law enforcement and our partners are tackling the opioid crisis through enforcement, prevention, diversion and connection.

Deputy Chief Ryan Gallagher and Captain Scott Meyers of the Coral Springs PD provided a detailed account of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS shooting in Parkland, FL, in which 14 students and 3 staff were killed. This case study for law enforcement and school administrators was provided through a partnership of BCPO, Bergen Chiefs Assoc. NJ, 200 Club of Bergen County, BCASSP and BCASA.

Members of the BCPO’s Chaplain Bureau meet periodically with Prosecutor Musella to talk about what is going on in our communities. At a recent meeting, members discussed the challenges of providing security for houses of worship and drug prevention education.

BCPO Captain Kelly Krenn participated in a Dean’s Lecture Series at Felician University for high school and college students. Capt. Krenn joined officers from Rutherford PD, Fort Lee PD, Lodi PD and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for a day of interactive simulations and discussions about motor vehicle stops and other police encounters in order to demystify the role of police and help students understand what to expect in a police encounter.

Each year, BCPO is honored to recognize the extraordinary community engagement work being done by local police agencies in Bergen County. These successful efforts to build strong relationships in communities improve the quality of life for us all.
