Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting that occurred on Lincoln Avenue in Elmwood Park, NJ on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at approximately 5:16 p.m. The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Elmwood Park Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Foligno. No additional information is available at this time.

For Immediate Release: December 22, 2022 Over the last few months, Bergen County has experienced several instances of a private citizen using the Internet to identify individuals who are attempting to lure minors into sexual activity and arranging for the arrest by law enforcement of these targeted individuals. The scenarios and arrests are then publicized on YouTube. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Bergen County law enforcement do not condone this vigilante activity. Bergen County law enforcement strongly discourages this activity, which holds the potential for violence and injury to the individuals involved as well as innocent bystanders. It also jeopardizes the due process rights of potential targets, puts private citizens in danger, and risks involving law enforcement in illegal activity. Private citizens are advised not to involve themselves in these activities. For Immediate Release: December 22, 2022 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ALEXANDER MERCADO (DOB: 11/30/1982; married; unemployed) of 2458 1st Street, Apt. 1, Fort Lee, NJ on a money laundering charge. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. On December 19, 2022, during a money laundering investigation, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle travelling through Bergen County and being operated by ALEXANDER MERCADO. A search of the vehicle revealed that MERCADO was transporting $31,680.00 in U.S. currency believed to be derived from criminal activity. As a result of the investigation, ALEXANDER MERCADO was placed under arrest without incident and charged with third-degree money laundering, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25a(1). The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. On December 19, 2022, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle traveling through Bergen County and determined that it was a “re-vin stolen vehicle,” which is sometimes called “VIN switching” or “VIN cloning.” A VIN, or vehicle identification number, is one or more small plates affixed to all vehicles that provide permanent identification of that automobile, regardless of ownership or license plates.
