For Immediate Release: October 30, 2023 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of LUIS N. VAZQUEZ-ALVAREZ (DOB: 5/26/1986; single; unemployed) of 3213 N. 6th Street, Philadelphia, PA, and JUAN CARRION-TORRES (DOB: 11/03/1978; single; unemployed) of 701 S. 4th Street, Camden, NJ on a charge of money laundering. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. On October 26, 2023, during a narcotics investigation, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle as it traveled through Bergen County, NJ. The investigation revealed that VAZQUEZ-ALVAREZ and CARRION-TORRES were transporting $23,605.00 U.S. currency, believed to be derived from criminal activity. As a result of the investigation, both VAZQUEZ-ALVAREZ and CARRION-TORRES were arrested and charged with third-degree money laundering, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25a(1). For Immediate Release: October 30, 2023 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced additional information in an investigation into a fatal crash involving the death of two men that occurred on Saturday, October 21, 2023 on Teaneck Road in Teaneck, NJ. The investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Teaneck Police Department under the direction of Chief Andrew McGurr. As previously reported, on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at approximately 2:08 a.m., the Teaneck Police Department received a 911 call reporting a single motor vehicle accident on Teaneck Road near Bilton Street. Responding officers found that a 2021 BMW M850i operated by TEDDY MEJIA had left the roadway and struck a tree before overturning. For Immediate Release: October 17, 2023 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of SEQIERA M. WASHINGTON (DOB: 6/5/1979; single; human services aide) of 73B Glenwood Avenue, Elmwood Park, NJ on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and impersonation. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. In September 2023, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit initiated an investigation which revealed that SEQIERA WASHINGTON obtained an electronic benefit transfer card belonging to another individual without authorization. WASHINGTON spent approximately $2,700 in benefits by making cash withdrawals and several retail purchases. On October 12, 2023, SEQIERA WASHINGTON was charged with third-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3(a); third-degree receiving stolen property, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7(a); and third-degree impersonation, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-17(a)(4). WASHINGTON was released on her own recognizance pending her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

For Immediate Release: October 14, 2023 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following updated information regarding an investigation into an apartment fire on Rennie Place in Lodi, NJ, that occurred on Friday, October 13, 2023. An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Lodi Police Department under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti. On Friday, October 13, 2023, at approximately 8:02 a.m., the Lodi Police Department responded to a fire alarm emanating from a Rennie Place apartment. Upon entry, first responders located 100-year-old Judy Reifel, who was unconscious and in critical condition. She was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where she ultimately died from the injuries she sustained in the fire. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Lodi Police Department are investigating a fire that occurred within a Rennie Place apartment in Lodi on Friday, October 13, 2023. At approximately 8:02 a.m., the Lodi Police Department responded to a fire alarm emanating from the Rennie Place apartment. Upon entry, first responders located an unresponsive 101-year-old woman in critical condition. The woman was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with serious injuries.  An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Lodi Police Department under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti. No other information is available at this time.
