The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer. On Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information regarding the alleged tampering of a witness during an administrative investigation being conducted by the Garfield Police Department. An investigation was initiated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and revealed that ANTHONY M. PIZZI, a Garfield Police Sergeant, contacted a Garfield Police Officer and instructed that officer to provide false information to internal affairs investigators in an effort to tamper with the facts and outcome of the investigation.
