For Immediate Release:
January 20, 2023
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of VICTOR T. BARTOLOMA (DOB: 9/25/1987; single; police officer) of Mahwah, NJ on a charge of hindering apprehension. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love.
On January 17, 2023, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that on January 15, 2023, VICTOR BARTOLOMA arrived on the scene of a motor vehicle accident and provided his personal vehicle to a driver involved in the accident so the driver could leave the scene. BARTOLOMA told a Ridgewood Police Officer who responded to the scene of the accident that he was the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. Surveillance cameras showed that BARTOLOMA was not the driver and was not present at the time of the accident. An eyewitness also stated to police on scene that BARTOLOMA was not the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident.
As the result of the investigation, on January 19, 2023, VICTOR BARTOLOMA was charged with second-degree hindering apprehension, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3a(5). He was also suspended without pay from his duties as a police officer. BARTOLOMA was released pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
