For Immediate Release: November 30, 2022 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JAMES A. AVALLONE (DOB: 11/19/1977; single; construction worker) of 77 Morrissee Avenue, Wallington, NJ on a charge of possession of child pornography. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of JAMES AVALLONE during a months-long Internet child pornography investigation. The investigation revealed that AVALLONE used the Internet to view, download and possess items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children. As a result of the investigation, JAMES AVALLONE was arrested on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 in Paramus, NJ and charged with third-degree possession of child pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4b(5)(b)iii. Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the New Milford Police Department are investigating a homicide that occurred in the area of 900 Boulevard in New Milford, NJ on Saturday, November 26, 2022. At approximately 7:10 p.m., the New Milford Police Department responded to the area and found a male victim who had been shot. The victim was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased. An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the New Milford Police Department under the direction of Chief Brian Clancy. No additional information is available at this time.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ANDERSON CASILLA FURCAL (DOB: 05/31/1997; single; unemployed) of 145 Chilton Hall, Apartment A-2, Elizabeth, NJ, on a charge of receiving stolen property.  The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. On November 22, 2022, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle traveling through Bergen County and determined that it was a “re-vin stolen vehicle,” which is sometimes called “VIN switching” or “VIN cloning.”  A VIN, or vehicle identification number, is one or more small plates affixed to all vehicles that provide permanent identification of that automobile, regardless of ownership or license plates.  The VIN affixed to this vehicle appeared to coincide with the license plates affixed to the car, but detectives quickly identified that…

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of EDDY CHOCOJ (DOB: 8/14/1988; single; unemployed) of North Bergen, NJ on sexual assault and child endangerment charges.  The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Fairview Police Department under the direction of Chief David Brennan. On November 9, 2022, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child.  An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairview Police Department revealed that EDDY CHOCOJ sexually assaulted a child between the ages of 4 and 11 years old on multiple occasions in Fairview, NJ.  As a result of the investigation, on Monday, November 21, 2022, EDDY CHOCOJ was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b;…

For Immediate Release: November 17, 2022 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that JOSHUA SALAZAR-MORENO (DOB: 3/07/2001; single; HVAC technician) of 949 E. 28th Street, Paterson, NJ was charged with attempted theft and uttering a forged document. This is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Carlstadt Police Department under the direction of Acting Chief Thomas Cox. On Wednesday, October 5, 2022, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit received information from the Carlstadt Police Department regarding multiple financial and banking documents that were suspected to be fraudulent. The investigation revealed that on Monday, August 29, 2022, utilizing a third-party’s bank account, JOSHUA SALAZAR-MORENO deposited an altered/fictitious U.S. Treasury check in the amount of $161,637.45 via an automated teller machine (ATM) at a financial institution in Bergen County. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force revealed that HUGO MORALES distributed cocaine to an undercover detective on multiple occasions since September 2022. On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, members of the Narcotic Task Force, Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and Paramus Police Department arrested HUGO MORALES as he attempted to distribute cocaine from his vehicle in Paramus, NJ. Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Fair Lawn Police Department are investigating an armed home invasion that occurred on 28th Street in Fair Lawn, NJ on Thursday, November 17, 2022.  Just after 9:00 a.m., the Fair Lawn Police Department responded to a report of a home invasion. Three individuals were in the home, and one sustained minor injuries. An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Fair Lawn Police Department under the direction of Chief Glen Cauwels. Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the area of Essex Street & Lehigh Street in Hackensack, NJ on Saturday, November 12, 2022, around 5:00 p.m.  Responding Hackensack Police Officers found one male victim who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  A second victim, 28-year-old Vidal R. Nieves, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound. An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Captain Michael Antista.

Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of Essex Street & Lehigh Street in Hackensack, NJ on Saturday, November 12, 2022.  At approximately 5:00 p.m., the Hackensack Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at that location with two victims shot. Responding officers found two male victims, each with a gunshot wound.  One of the victims was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. A second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Captain Michael Antista. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available, but the shooting appears to be an isolated incident.
