Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announces the following information: This evening, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Fort Lee Police Department are conducting a death investigation at a private residence on Maple Street.  First responders who were answering a 911 call at approximately 3:34 p.m. located and transported an unresponsive 12-year-old child to an area hospital.  The child was pronounced deceased.   This ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Fort Lee Police Department under the direction of Chief Matthew Hintze. No other information is available tonight while the investigation is underway.  More details will be released when possible.

For Immediate Release: May 21, 2024 Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the identification of human remains discovered in Overpeck Creek in Ridgefield Park, NJ. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit in coordination with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, Ridgefield Park Police Department, Maywood Police Department, and with assistance from the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management, Bergen County Regional Dive Team, and the New Jersey State Police began an investigation into artifacts recovered from Overpeck Creek in Ridgefield Park, NJ earlier this month. Indicators of submerged artifacts were originally detected by a private, non-profit dive company, which notified law enforcement of its discovery. In a joint operation that was undertaken on Friday, May 3, 2024, county divers successfully confirmed the presence of submerged artifacts, which appeared to be approximately 40 years old. On Monday, March 25, 2024, at approximately 3:48 p.m., the Allendale Police Department responded to a reported dispute at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers discovered that an armed robbery occurred and the assailant fled the scene.
