CHARGES FILED IN CONNECTION WITH 2023 CARJACKING IN RIVER EDGE

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the filing of charges against 20-year-old JADEN NOBOA of New York, NY, as well as delinquency charges filed against two former juveniles, following a lengthy investigation into an armed carjacking that occurred in River Edge, NJ in 2023. The charges are the result of an extensive investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the River Edge Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Walker.
On Saturday, December 23, 2023, the River Edge Police Department responded to an armed carjacking that occurred in a parking lot on Grand Avenue in River Edge, NJ. Three male suspects approached the victim’s vehicle and physically removed him from the driver’s seat at gunpoint. One of the suspects also struck the victim in the head with a firearm multiple times and demanded the keys to the vehicle. The three suspects then entered the vehicle and fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad were notified, responded, and initiated a joint investigation into the incident with the River Edge Police Department.
Following an investigation that spanned approximately 29 months, detectives ultimately identified JADEN NOBOA and two additional New York City residents, who were 16 and 17 years old at the time, as the three suspects involved in the armed carjacking.
As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, juvenile delinquency charges were filed against the former 16-year-old juvenile, specifically: first-degree carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2a(2); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); and three counts of third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2).
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the former 16-year-old juvenile, who is now an adult, was located and taken into custody in New York City with the assistance of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Thereafter, on May 26, 2026, the former juvenile was extradited to Bergen County, NJ and placed in the custody of the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Facility, pending further action by the Bergen County Superior Court, Family Division.
As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, juvenile delinquency charges were filed against the former 17-year-old juvenile, specifically: first-degree carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2a(2); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); and three counts of third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2). The former 17-year-old juvenile, who is now an adult, was last known to live in New York City. However, as of this date, attempts to locate and take him into custody have been unsuccessful. His current whereabouts are unknown, and he remains a fugitive from justice.
As a result of the investigation, also on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, criminal charges were filed against JADEN NOBOA, namely: first-degree carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2a(2); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); and three counts of third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2). As of this date, JADEN NOBOA’s current whereabouts are unknown, and he remains a fugitive from justice. Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
