For Immediate Release:

June 10, 2021

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of CHRISTOPHER MACIAS (DOB: 9/15/1989; single; fulfillment associate) of 6713 Polk Street, #AA, Guttenberg, New Jersey on a charge of Assault by Auto. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love, and the Carlstadt Police Department under the direction of Chief Thomas Berta.

At approximately 12:50 p.m. on June 8, 2021, the Carlstadt Police Department responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Route 17 South and Hoboken Road. Responding officers located a 2009 Mini Cooper which collided with the side of a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica. The collision occurred on the highway entrance ramp from Hoboken Road to Route 17 South. The driver of the Mini Cooper, CHRISTOPHER MACIAS, was uninjured and remained on the scene. The driver of the Chrysler, a 65-year-old resident of Montgomery, New York, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where he remains in critical condition. The ensuing investigation revealed that MACIAS was operating his vehicle on Route 17 South at a high rate of speed before attempting to navigate the exit ramp to Hoboken Road. MACIAS then lost control of his vehicle, crossed the median separating the exit and entrance ramps, and struck the Chrysler on the driver’s side.

As a result of the investigation, CHRISTOPHER MACIAS was arrested on June 8, 2021 and charged with Assault By Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(1), a 4TH degree crime. In addition, he was served with motor vehicle summonses for Reckless Driving, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-96, and Speeding, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-98.  MACIAS is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey on Monday, June 21, 2021.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Carlstadt Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
