For Immediate Release:
April 30, 2026

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 58-year-old KENNETH G. BELHUMER, JR. of Closter, NJ, on the charge of attempted child endangerment. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Northeast Field Office, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Gillian Ruppert.

In November 2025, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office began coordinating with the NCIS Northeast Field Office in Connecticut on a case involving online child endangerment. More specifically, between May 8, 2025, and July 9, 2025, an undercover NCIS agent, posing as a 14-year-old child online, was contacted by an adult male suspect who engaged the purported child in sexual conversation, including sending nude photos and offering to pay the child to perform sexual acts with him. An initial investigation led investigators to believe the suspect resided in Bergen County, NJ.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, following a months-long investigation, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, along with NCIS, executed a search warrant at the residence of KENNETH G. BELHUMER, JR. The investigation revealed that BELHUMER, JR. engaged in online sexual conversations with the purported minor, constituting child endangerment.

As a result of the investigation, KENNETH G. BELHUMER, JR. was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, and charged with third-degree attempted child endangerment, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1a(1) / 24-4a(1). BELHUMER, JR. was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the NCIS – Northeast Field Office for its assistance and coordination with this investigation. Additionally, he thanks and recognizes the Closter Police Department, Department of Homeland Security – Home Security Investigations (New Jersey and Connecticut Offices), and the Wethersfield (CT) Police Department for their assistance. Finally, Prosecutor Musella thanks the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, Norwood Police Department, Washington Township Police Department, and Woodcliff Lake Police Department, which all participate in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.
