Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JOHN YOUNG (DOB: 2/13/1989; married; auto parts store employee) of 227 Fourth Street, Apartment 4, Englewood, NJ on gun possession and arson charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Englewood Police Department under the direction of Officer in Charge Deputy Chief Thomas Greeley.

On Tuesday, February 16, 2022 at approximately 9:14 PM, the Englewood Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding an SUV on fire. Englewood Police and Fire personnel arrived on scene and suppressed the fully involved vehicle fire. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit Arson Task Force was requested to respond and an investigation ensued.

An investigation conducted by detectives from the Englewood Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that JOHN YOUNG set fire to the vehicle. A search warrant was executed at YOUNG’s residence where a handgun was located.

On Wednesday, February 16, 2022, JOHN YOUNG was arrested and charged with first-degree certain persons not to possess a handgun, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b; second-degree certain persons not to possess a handgun, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5j; second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(1); and second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(2). He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
