Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 30-year-old MARLIN CERVANTES-SANTOS of Fairview, NJ, on charges of endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Fairview Police Department under the direction of Chief Vincent Bellucci.
On Monday, June 10, 2024, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding a child under the age of thirteen who was allegedly attacked in Fairview, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairview Police Department resulted in the arrest of 33-year-old JULIO AMARO-VASQUEZ of Ridgefield, NJ. Further investigation into the incident revealed that MARLIN CERVANTES-SANTOS, who was in a dating relationship with AMARO-VASQUEZ, had directed two children to provide false information to police during the course of the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, MARLIN CERVANTES-SANTOS was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a. CERVANTES-SANTOS was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Fairview Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
