Press Releases << FORT LEE, NJ MAN CHARGED WITH KNOWINGLY LEAVING THE SCENE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT RESULTING IN SERIOUS BODILY INJURY

For Immediate Release:
September 16, 2023

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of TAE LEE (DOB: 12/3/1952; married; unemployed) of 505 North Avenue, Apt 16M, Fort Lee, NJ. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Moonachie Police Department under the direction of Chief Richard Behrens.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at approximately 4:40 a.m., the Moonachie Police Department received a 911 call reporting a crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at the intersection of Industrial Avenue and U.S. Route 46 in Teterboro, NJ. The pedestrian, a 75-year-old Paterson, NJ resident, was transported to Hackensack University Hospital for treatment of serious bodily injuries. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Moonachie Police Department revealed that an SUV operated by TAE LEE struck the victim as he crossed Industrial Avenue and fled the area prior to police arrival.

As a result of the investigation, TAE LEE was charged with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1. LEE was also issued motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failure to report a motor vehicle accident. LEE was released on his own recognizance pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Moonachie Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this investigation.
