FOUR MEN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH NOVEMBER 2022 ARMED HOME INVASION IN MAYWOOD, NJ

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of DERICK DE LA ROSA (DOB: 8/27/2003; single; unemployed) of 1432 Crotona Park East, Apt 2-B, Bronx, NY; ISMAEL CARRASCO-DE LA ROSA (DOB: 9/06/1990; single; unemployed) of 229 Kingston Avenue, Yonkers, NY; JOAQUIN PORTORREAL-GARCIA (DOB: 11/22/2001; single; unemployed) of 1440 Crotona Park East, Apt 2-C, Bronx, NY; and FRANCISCO ROJAS-CORPORAN (DOB: 12/17/1993; single; unemployed) of 642 Hanson Avenue, Perth Amboy, NJ on armed robbery related charges. The arrests are the result of a joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (“BCPO”) under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Maywood Police Department under the direction of Chief Terrance R. Kenny.
On Friday, November 11, 2022, the Maywood Police Department received a report of an armed home invasion that occurred at a residence on Terrace Avenue. Three male suspects armed with handguns demanded cash from the homeowner, and one of the men pointed a semi-automatic firearm at one of the residents. The three men later fled the home with cash and entered a vehicle operated by a fourth suspect. All four men fled the scene. The Maywood Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad, and a joint investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, DERICK DE LA ROSA, ISMAEL CARRASCO-DE LA ROSA, JOAQUIN PORTORREAL-GARCIA, and FRANCISCO ROJAS-CORPORAN were identified as suspects.
On Thursday, August 17, 2023, BCPO detectives along with law enforcement personnel from the FBI-NJ Violent Crimes Task Force and the FBI-NY Safe Streets Task Force executed arrest warrants in Perth Amboy, NJ; the Bronx, NY; and Yonkers, NY, in which all four suspects were apprehended without incident.
FRANCISCO ROJAS-CORPORANwas charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(2)/2C:15-1a(1); second-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); third-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a; and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, N.J.S.A 2C:12-1b(4). ROJAS-CORPORANwas remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
DERICK DE LA ROSA was charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(2)/2C:15-1a(1); second-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); third-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a; third-degree hindering apprehension, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3a(2); and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, N.J.S.A 2C:12-1b(4). DERICK DE LA ROSA was detained in the Westchester County Department of Corrections pending extradition to Bergen County, NJ.
JOAQUIN PORTORREAL-GARCIAwas charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(2)/2C:15-1a(1); second-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); third-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a; and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, N.J.S.A 2C:12-1b(4). PORTORREAL-GARCIAwas detained at NYPD’s Central Booking in Manhattan, NY, pending extradition to Bergen County, NJ.
ISMAEL CARRASCO-DE LA ROSA was charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2a(2)/2C:15-1a(1); second-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2a(1); second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); third-degree theft, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a; and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, N.J.S.A 2C:12-1b(4). CARRASCO-DE LA ROSAwas detained at NYPD’s Central Booking in Manhattan, NY, pending extradition to Bergen County, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
