FUGITIVE EXTRADITED TO U.S. TO FACE 2014 SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest and extradition of JESUS RESTREPO (DOB: 01/26/1966) formerly of Englewood, NJ on aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child charges.
In September 2014, an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Englewood Police Department revealed that JESUS RESTREPO sexually assaulted two children, one of whom was 13 years old and one of whom was 12 years old, on multiple occasions in Englewood, NJ. RESTREPO was charged with multiple sexual assault related crimes, but he fled the country before he could be arrested.
On May 31, 2017, a Bergen County Grand Jury indicted JESUS RESTREPO on first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(1); first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(2)(a); two counts of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b; and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a.
On February 8, 2020, RESTREPO was arrested in Colombia pursuant to an Interpol Red Notice and was detained there pending extradition back to the United States. On Thursday, January 19, 2023, RESTREPO was transported by U.S. Marshals to the Bergen County Jail pending his arraignment and detention hearing scheduled for Friday, January 27, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Englewood Police Department, the F.B.I. NY/NJ Regional Taskforce Division, and the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Task Force – Newark Division for their assistance in this investigation.
