Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 40-year-old PAUL J. GOMEZ of Garfield, NJ on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault, and simple assault. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Fairview Police Department, under the direction of Chief Vincent Bellucci.

On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the New Jersey Division of Child Protection & Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged physical assault of three juveniles that occurred at a residence in Fairview, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Fairview Police Department revealed that PAUL J. GOMEZ assaulted and endangered three juveniles on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, causing one of the children to sustain significant bodily injury.

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, PAUL J. GOMEZ was arrested in Paramus, NJ and charged with three counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2); one count of third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(7); and two counts of simple assault, a disorderly persons offense, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a(1). GOMEZ was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, made a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, and released pending further court action.

Prosecutor Mark Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
