Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 31-year-old FORROD BONSU of Hackensack, NJ on charges of theft, forgery, and falsifying with records. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Hackensack Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.

On Friday, February 6, 2026, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information regarding an alleged forgery of military records submitted to the City of Hackensack. A nearly three-month investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department Professional Standards Unit revealed that on or about July 28, 2021, through December 7, 2025, FORROD BONSU, a Hackensack Police Officer, provided falsified United States Marine Corps records to the City of Hackensack in order to obtain paid military leave from the police department in an amount totaling $18,689.59.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, FORROD BONSU was arrested and charged with third-degree theft by unlawful taking, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-4.; fourth-degree forgery, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-1a(1); and fourth-degree falsifying with records, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4a. BONSU was subsequently released pending further court action.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Hackensack Police Department for its assistance in this matter.
