Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of WILLIAM CLARK (DOB: 06/11/1985; single; electrician) of 64 Alana Drive, Hawthorne, NJ, on a charge of vehicular homicide. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Fair Lawn Police Department under the direction of Chief Glen Cauwels.
On Thursday, October 5, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Fair Lawn Police Department received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Wagaraw Road, near the intersection of Maple Avenue and River Road. Responding Officers determined that a 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck operated by WILLIAM CLARK was traveling south on Wagaraw Road when it crossed over the double yellow line into the northbound lane striking a motorcycle traveling south on Wagaraw Road. The motorcycle then struck a utility pole. The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 33-year-old Harold M. Almonte of Hawthorne, NJ, was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. CLARK was suspected of operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest.
As a result of the investigation, WILLIAM CLARK was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide resulting in the death of another, while in violation of driving while intoxicated, N.J.S.A. 2C:11-5a. He was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses. CLARK was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Fair Lawn Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
