HUNTSVILLE, AL MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT, ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD AND CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONTACT

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ELIJAH HUTCHENS (DOB: 5/03/2003; single; unemployed) of Huntsville, AL on sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal sexual contact charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Paramus Police Department under the direction of Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.
On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the Paramus Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of a child. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paramus Police Department revealed that ELIJAH HUTCHENS sexually assaulted the child, who was younger than 16 years old, in Paramus, NJ on more than one occasion. In addition, HUTCHENS was found to be storing an unsecured firearm within reach of a child.
As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, ELIJAH HUTCHENS was arrested in Paramus, NJ, and charged with second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4); third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1); fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, 2C:14-3b; and the disorderly persons offense of possessing a firearm that a minor is likely to gain access to, 2C:58-15a. HUTCHENS was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Paramus Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
