Intelligence and Counterterrorism Unit

Intelligence and Counterterrorism Unit

The mission of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Intelligence & Counterterrorism Unit is to collect, analyze, preserve, and disseminate intelligence information regarding criminal and terrorist activity in Bergen County. The unit also serves in the essential role as the County Counterterrorism Coordinator (CTC) of all law enforcement homeland security initiatives and is a partner with the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJ OHSP).

INTELLIGENCE

The Intelligence Unit is tasked with providing analytical resources which include crime analysis, toll analysis, financial analysis, link analysis, and the mapping of criminal activity throughout the county with the purpose of identifying crimes that have similar methods of operation, and to give focus and assistance to specialized units in the Prosecutor's Office as well as to our local law enforcement agencies in Bergen County and our regional partners in the State of New Jersey.

COUNTERTERRORISM

The Counterterrorism Unit coordinates suspicious incidents and any follow-up investigations with the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness who will collaborate with the New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Terrorism Task Forces (FBI-JTTFs).

COUNTY COUNTERTERRORISM COORDINATOR (CTC)

As part of the State of New Jersey's Homeland Security mission, the CTC is responsible for the coordination of all local Municipal Counterterrorism Coordinators (MCTC) from each department whose responsibility is to enter terrorism-related or suspicious activity information into the NJ Suspicious Activity Reporting System.

CTCs dedicate most of their time to counterterrorism, intelligence, and investigations, and are the central point of contact to receive, share, collect, and distribute terrorism-related material to all local law enforcement agencies in the county.

RISK MITIGATION PLANNER

The Risk Mitigation Planner is responsible for assessing risk of our critical infrastructure sites and other key assets including places of worship and schools. The goal is to minimize the impact of unplanned incidents at those locations by identifying and addressing potential risks before significant negative consequences occur.
