Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 30-year-old ANTHONY M. PIZZI on the charge of witness tampering. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer.
On Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information regarding the alleged tampering of a witness during an administrative investigation being conducted by the Garfield Police Department. An investigation was initiated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and revealed that ANTHONY M. PIZZI, a Garfield Police Sergeant, contacted a Garfield Police Officer and instructed that officer to provide false information to internal affairs investigators in an effort to tamper with the facts and outcome of the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, ANTHONY M. PIZZI was arrested and charged with third-degree tampering with witnesses, N.J.S.A. 2C:28-5a(1). PIZZI was released pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Garfield Police Department for their assistance in this matter.
