Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that JOSEPH BILOTTA (DOB: 1/12/1958; single; employed) of 129 Marvin Rd, Middletown, NJ was charged with theft. This is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Lodi Police Department under the direction of Chief Donald Scorzetti.
In September 2021, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit received information from the Lodi Police Department about an apparent account takeover scheme crafted by JOSEPH BILOTTA which targeted victims in New Jersey and Maryland. BILOTTA fraudulently opened a credit card to fund his lifestyle. BILOTTA utilized a victim’s retirement account to make payments to the fraudulently obtained credit card. The estimated total theft is in excess of $300,000.00.
On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, JOSEPH BILOTTA was arrested without incident in Hackensack, NJ and charged with one count of second-degree theft, N.J.S.A 2C:20-3a. BILOTTA was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending a future Central Judicial Processing Court hearing.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
