NASIR NEWSOME OF PATERSON, NJ CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND TERRORISTIC THREATS

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of NASIR NEWSOME (DOB: 12/29/1995; single; unemployed) of Paterson, NJ on aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault and terroristic threats charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton.
On Friday, December 3, 2021, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged sexual assault of an inmate within the Bergen County Jail. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office revealed that inmate NASIR NEWSOME sexually assaulted another inmate in the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ.
As a result of the investigation, on Friday, December 3, 2021, NASIR NEWSOME was arrested in Hackensack, NJ, and charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(6); second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1); and third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3b. NEWSOME was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
