Press Releases << OAKLAND, NJ MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER AND WEAPON OFFENSES

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 34-year-old JOSE HIGINIO RAMOS SOLIS of Oakland, NJ on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and possession of a weapon. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Oakland Police Department under the direction of Chief Keith Sanzari.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 2:56 p.m., the Oakland Police Department responded to a stabbing at 455 Ramapo Valley Road in Oakland, NJ. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered that a 53-year-old male was stabbed, and the assailant had fled the scene. The suspect, later identified as JOSE HIGINIO RAMOS SOLIS, was subsequently apprehended a short distance from the scene by Oakland Police Officers, while the victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was notified, responded, and assisted in a joint investigation that revealed JOSE HIGINIO RAMOS SOLIS approached the victim inside the establishment and stabbed him using a large knife.

As a result of the investigation, on November 21, 2024, JOSE HIGINIO RAMOS SOLIS was charged with first-degree attempted murder, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1A(1)/2C:11-3A(1); third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39-4D; and fourth-degree possession of a weapon, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5D. JOSE HIGINIO RAMOS SOLIS was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
