ORANGEBURG, NY MAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ARSON AND ARSON

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of NICHOLAS L. TODARO (DOB: 8/10/1987; single; unemployed) of Orangeburg, NY on arson charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit under the direction of Chief Jason Love, and the Ramsey Police Department under the direction of Chief Brian Lyman.
On January 5, 2024 at approximately 6:36 p.m., the Ramsey Police Department responded to a fire in a wooded area behind a shopping center located at 50 Spring Street in Ramsey, NJ. Approximately 20 minutes later, there was a report of a second fire, in a wooded area behind 8 Interstate Shopping Center in Ramsey. Both fires were extinguished by the Ramsey Fire Department. Further investigation revealed that NICHOLAS TODARO had intentionally set both fires.
As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, NICHOLAS TODARO was charged with two counts of second-degree aggravated arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1a(5); and two counts of third-degree arson, N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1b(5). TODARO was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he thanks the Ramsey Police Department and the Ramsey Fire Department for their assistance in this investigation.
