Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced today the arrest of STEVEN DUCKACK, DOB 07/14/1957, of 13 Smith Avenue, Fair Lawn, New Jersey, on a charge of Aggravated Assault. DUCKACK was arrested on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in connection with an incident which occurred in the Borough of Fair Lawn, NJ. The arrest is a result of an investigation being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Major Crimes Unit under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Robert ANZILOTTI and the Fair Lawn Police Department under the direction of Chief Glen CAUWELS.
The investigation revealed that at approximately 5:41 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016, Fair Lawn Police were called to 17 Smith Avenue, Fair Lawn, NJ in response to a reported assault. Officers determined that the victim of the assault reportedly arrived at the residence to pick up a female acquaintance and was assaulted by her boyfriend STEVEN DUCKACK, DOB 07/14/1957, of 13 Smith Avenue, Fair Lawn, NJ. During the assault, the victim sustained facial injuries and later required emergency medical attention. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson by ambulance at which time his condition steadily worsened. The victim’s condition as of September 30, 2016 is listed as critical. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Major Crimes Unit was notified of the assault and worked in conjunction with the Fair Lawn Police Department to locate and arrest DUCKACK. He was arrested on September 28, 2016 at his residence by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Fair Lawn Police Department for Aggravated Assault in the Second Degree, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C: 12-1b(1). DUCKACK was remanded to the Bergen County Jail for default of required bail in the amount of $250,000.00 with no ten percent option.
DUCKACK appeared in front of Judge McGeady J.S.C. on Friday September 30, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., at which time his bail was continued at $250,000.00 with no 10 % option. As a condition of his bail he is required to surrender his passport and is not permitted to possess firearms. A not guilty plea was entered by the defendant at that time.
