Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of HANS JOCHIMSEN (DOB: 7/6/1933; single; and retired) of 2100 Linwood Avenue, Apartment 18E, Fort Lee, New Jersey. Mr. JOCHIMSEN was charged with Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The arrest came about as a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office,Fatal Accident Investigation Unit under the direction of Chief Robert ANZILOTTI and the Fort Lee Police Department under the direction of Chief Keith BENDUL.
On Sunday, February 19, 2017, at approximately 6:07 a.m., the Fort Lee Police Department received a report of a person struck by a motor vehicle in front of 2152 Lemoine Avenue. Upon responding to the scene, officers determined that Hans JOCHIMSEN, who was operating a 1992 Toyota Camry, had struck BYRON MURPHY, a 57-year-old man from New York, NY, while he was crossing Lemoine Avenue. Due to injuries suffered during the collision, Mr. MURPHY was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
As a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit (FAIU) and the Fort Lee Police Department, it was determined that at approximately 6:07 a.m., on Sunday, February 19, 2017, Mr. JOCHIMSEN left the scene of the collision after he struck MURPHY while he was crossing Lemoine Avenue.
Hans JOCHIMSEN was charged with one count of violating N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Mr. JOCHIMSEN was also issued a motor vehicle summons for Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Mr. JOCHIMSEN is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
