The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, and the East Rutherford Police Department under the direction of Chief Dennis Rivelli.
On May 11, 2017, the East Rutherford Police Department and Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that a 12-year-old female was inappropriately touched by Daniel BRINEZ while in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and that he had ingested a controlled dangerous substance in the victim’s presence at or around the same time. Following additional investigation, on May 18, 2017, BRINEZ was charged with one count of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2B, Sexual Assault by Sexual Contact, a second degree crime; and two counts of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 3rd degree crimes. At the time, a complaint warrant was issued for BRINEZ’s arrest.
On July 10, 2017, BRINEZ was arrested in East Hanover, New Jersey, and was remanded to the Morris County Jail, pending a first appearance at the Bergen County Central Judicial Court on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Grewal would also like to thank the East Rutherford Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
