LUIS JAVIER VASQUEZ AND PEDRO DIAZ OF PHILADELPHIA, PA CHARGED WITH MONEY LAUNDERING

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of LUIS JAVIER VASQUEZ (DOB: 01-17-1990; single; and unemployed) of 4154 N. Marshall Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and PEDRO DIAZ (DOB:02-24-1981; single; and unemployed) of 4575 Shelbourne Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. These arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

As part of a narcotics investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, a motor vehicle stop was conducted in the area of Fort Lee, NJ on a silver 2007 Hyundai Sonata. A subsequent consent search revealed $60,069.00 of U. S.  currency in an electronically operated aftermarket hidden compartment. The vehicle was occupied by Luis Javier VASQUEZ and Pedro DIAZ.  

Luis Javier VASQUEZ and Pedro DIAZ were each charged with one count of Transporting or Possessing Property known or which a reasonable person would believe to be derived from Criminal Activity, specifically by possessing $60,069.00 in United States Currency, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25(A), a crime of the third degree.

Luis Javier VASQUEZ was also charged with one count of Displaying a Document which Falsely Purports to be a driver’s license which could be used as a means of verifying a person’s identity, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-2.1C, a crime of the third degree; and one count of Identity Theft and Impersonation, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-17A, a crime of the fourth degree. 

Luis Javier VASQUEZ and Pedro DIAZ were both released on their own recognizance pending a Central Judicial Processing hearing.

Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
