Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of FRANCISCO J. LOPEZ (DOB: 04-05-1962; married; and employed as a taxi driver) of 215 Audubon Ave, New York, New York. This arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
During a narcotics investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, a motor vehicle stop was conducted in the area of Fort Lee, NJ on a black 2006 Jeep Cherokee. A subsequent search revealed an aftermarket electronically operated hidden compartment containing $186,725.00 in suspiciously packaged U.S. currency. The vehicle was occupied by Francisco LOPEZ.
Francisco LOPEZ was charged with one count of Transporting or Possessing property known or which a reasonable person would believe to be derived from criminal activity, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25(A), a crime of the second degree. LOPEZ was released on his own recognizance pending a Central Judicial Processing hearing.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
