MATTHEW CABRITA OF BLOOMFIELD, NJ CHARGED WITH DRUG RELATED OFFENSES IN WALLINGTON, NJ

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of MATTHEW H. CABRITA (DOB: 5/24/1991; single; and unemployed) of 194 Bloomfield Avenue, Apt. 307, Bloomfield, NJ. The arrest occurred on September 6, 2017, and was the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, the Wallington Police Department under the direction of Chief Carmello Imbruglia, the Garfield Police Department under the direction of Chief Raymond Kovach, and the Emerson Police Department under the direction of Chief Michael Mazzeo.

The investigation revealed that MATTHEW H. CABRITA was involved in the distribution of controlled dangerous substances. On Wednesday, September 6, 2017, law enforcement personnel conducted an investigative motor vehicle stop of CABRITA in Wallington, New Jersey, which revealed approximately two hundred grams of cocaine, which were seized. A subsequent search of CABRITA’s residence revealed approximately fourteen pounds of marijuana, several hundred THC vapor pens, eighty grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, including a vacuum sealer and bags, and U.S. Currency totaling $86,028.00 was also located and seized. The estimated street value of the suspected controlled dangerous substances seized was approximately $100,000.00.

MATTHEW H. CABRITA was charged with one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(1), a First Degree Crime; one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(2), a Second Degree Crime; one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Marijuana, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(10)(b), a Second Degree Crime; one count of Money Laundering, N.J.S.A. 2C:21-25A, a Second Degree Crime; and one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Hash-Oil, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11), a Third Degree Crime. CABRITA was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a Central Judicial Processing court date.

Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
