Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrests of JOSE ALVARADO-TORO (DOB: 09/17/1984; married; and employed as a truck driver) of 3522 Bleigh Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and JONATHAN DE CASTRO-SANCHEZ (DOB: 10/18/86; single; and unemployed) of 2105 Ryer Avenue, Apt. 4C, Bronx, New York on charges related to the distribution of drug paraphernalia. These arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force was involved in a drug trafficking investigation during which detectives conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2008 Buick Enclave on Interstate 95 South in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. This vehicle was being driven by Jose ALVARADO-TORO, and Jonathan DE CASTRO-SANCHEZ was the front seat passenger. A search of the vehicle revealed an empty electronically operated hidden compartment under the second row seat and resulted in the seizure of several thousand glassine envelopes commonly used to package heroin.
Jose ALVARADO-TORO and Jonathan DE CASTRO-SANCHEZ were each charged with one count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with the Intent to Distribute or Manufacture a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Heroin, N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3, a Fourth Degree Crime. Both men were released on their own recognizance pending a first appearance in the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
