Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of JOSEPH SCAGLIONE (DOB: 2/24/1956; single; and employed as a public works foreman) of 143 Walnut Street, Northvale, New Jersey. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Northvale Police Department under the direction of Chief William Essmann.
A narcotics investigation revealed that Joseph SCAGLIONE was involved in the illegal growing of marijuana plants. On Friday, September 15, 2017, law enforcement personnel conducted a search of SCAGLIONE’S residence in Northvale, New Jersey as well as the exterior of his residence. This search revealed ten large marijuana plants growing in his backyard, and several more ounces of marijuana, anabolic steroids, and $5,610.00 of U.S. currency in the residence.
SCAGLIONE was charged with the following offenses: one count of Growing ten or more but less than fifty marijuana plants, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(10)b, a Second Degree Crime; one count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute A Controlled Dangerous Substance, Namely Marijuana in an amount over one ounce but less than five pounds, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(11), a Third Degree Crime; and one count of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Anabolic Steroids in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10A(1), a Third Degree Crime. SCAGLIONE was issued a criminal summons and released on his own recognizance. His first appearance court date at Central Judicial Processing is on Wednesday, October 4, 2017.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
