FROM: PROSECUTOR GURBIR S. GREWAL

DATE: OCTOBER 12, 2017

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced today the arrest of CARMEN LOMBARDI (DOB: 10/24/1975; single; and employed as a vehicle inspector) of 17 Martha Avenue, Elmwood Park, New Jersey on a charge of Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Fort Lee Police Department under the direction of Chief Keith Bendul, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Michael Saudino, and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit under the direction of Chief of Detectives Robert Anzilotti.

On Thursday, October 12, 2017, at approximately 9:55 a.m., the Fort Lee Police Department received multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Lemoine Avenue and Bridge Plaza North. Upon responding to the scene, officers located and treated a 57-year-old female victim who had been struck by a motor vehicle. Due to injuries suffered during the collision, she was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center where she is currently in critical condition. The collision also involved two motor vehicles; one of which remained at the scene while the other vehicle fled westbound on Bridge Plaza North. The ensuing investigation revealed that the fleeing vehicle was operated by LOMBARDI.

As a result of the investigation, Carmen LOMBARDI was arrested and charged with one count of Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:12-1.1, a third degree crime. LOMBARDI was charged on a complaint-summons and was released, and is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.

Prosecutor Grewal states that this charge is merely an accusation, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Grewal would like to thank the Fort Lee Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
