Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of RAUL J. RODRIGUEZ (DOB: 1/28/84, single; and employed as a supermarket clerk) of 299 Sherman Avenue, First Floor, Jersey City, New Jersey on charges of Invasion of Privacy and Possession of Child Pornography. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sheriff Michael Saudino, and the Lyndhurst Police Department under the direction of Chief James O’Connor.
On Wednesday evening, November 8, 2017, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, in coordination with the Lyndhurst Police Department, apprehended Raul RODRIGUEZ in Riverside County Park South in Lyndhurst for filming a patron using the restroom inside the park. As a result of the information received, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit initiated an investigation. The investigation revealed that Raul RODRIGUEZ used the camera on a smartphone to record and view an area of the men’s bathroom. In addition, the investigation revealed that RODRIGUEZ’s electronic device also contained child pornography, including sexually explicit images and/or videos of prepubescent children. The investigation is continuing, but at this time there is no evidence that any children using the park were recorded in the bathroom.
As a result of the investigation, Raul RODRIGUEZ was arrested on November 8, 2017 in Lyndhurst and charged with one count of Invasion of Privacy, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-9B(1) a third degree crime, and one count of Possession of Child Pornography, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(b)5(b) a third degree crime. RODRIGUEZ is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
Prosecutor Grewal states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department and the Lyndhurst Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
