EVERETT JOHNSON OF MAHWAH, NEW JERSEY CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ARSON
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of EVERETT JOHNSON (DOB: 5/23/1946; married) of 3 Marion Drive, Mahwah, New Jersey, on a charge of Aggravated Arson. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Mahwah Police Department under the direction of Chief James Batelli.
On January 18, 2018, the Mahwah Police Department received a call to check the welfare of the residents at 3 Marion Drive, Mahwah, New Jersey. Mahwah police officers were dispatched to the location and one of the patrol officers observed Everett JOHNSON in the garage area holding a can of gasoline. Officers also observed an active fire inside the garage and heavy fire inside the residence, both of which were severely damaged by fire.
As a result of the investigation, Everett JOHNSON was arrested on Thursday, January 18, 2018 and charged with violating one count of N.J.S.A. 2C:17-2a, Aggravated Arson, a 2nd degree crime. JOHNSON was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in the Bergen County Central Judicial Court on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.
Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Calo states that this charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would also like to thank the Mahwah Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
