RENE JIMENEZ AND EMETERIO CASTELAN OF EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ AND LUIS TENECELA OF HACKENSACK, NJ CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrests of RENE JIMENEZ (DOB: 7/8/1988; single; and employed as a dishwasher) of 192 Park Avenue, Apartment 2, East Rutherford, New Jersey; LUIS TENECELA (DOB:  04/26/1997; single; and employed as kitchen help) of 9 Jackson Avenue, Apartment 1, Hackensack, New Jersey; and EMETERIO CASTELAN (DOB: 03/03/1982; single; and employed as kitchen help) of 192 Park Avenue, Apartment 2, East Rutherford, New Jersey on charges of Aggravated Sexual Assault and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact.  The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, and the East Rutherford Police Department under the direction of Chief Dennis Rivelli.

On Monday, February 5, 2018, the East Rutherford Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and reported that they had responded to a 911 call in their jurisdiction.  Upon arrival, an adult female reported that she had just been sexually assaulted.  An investigation revealed that the victim was sexually assaulted by Rene JIMENEZ, Luis TENECELA, and Emeterio CASTELAN while she was incapacitated and physically helpless.

As a result of the investigation, Rene JIMENEZ, Luis TENECELA and Emeterio CASTELAN were arrested on February 6, 2018 in East Rutherford, New Jersey and charged with one count each of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Person While Aided by a Co-Defendant, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(5), a crime of the 1st degree; Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Person who is Physically Helpless or Mentally Incapacitated, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(7), a crime of the 1st degree; and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact of a Person who is Physically Helpless, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3A, a crime of the 3rd degree.  JIMENEZ, TENECELA, and CASTELAN were remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing on February 12, 2018 at 9:00 A.M.

Acting Prosecutor Calo states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the East Rutherford Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
