Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of WILLIAM A. BERRY, JR. (DOB: 10/16/1971; separated; and self-employed as a day trader) of 11 Woodruff Court, Englishtown, NJ on charges of Distributing Cocaine, Possession Of Cocaine, and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia. This arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force revealed that William A. BERRY, Jr. was a distributor of Cocaine in Bergen County. In August 2018, BERRY distributed approximately 20 grams of Cocaine to an undercover detective of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. On September 4, 2018, BERRY also distributed approximately 200 grams of Cocaine to the undercover detective and was then arrested without incident. Further investigation revealed that BERRY was in possession of an additional 8 grams of Cocaine and drug paraphernalia associated with the distribution of narcotics, including a digital scale and numerous small unused plastic baggies.
BERRY was charged with one count of Distributing A Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, in an amount greater than five ounces, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5B(1), a crime of the 1st degree; one count of Distributing A Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, in an amount greater than one-half ounce but less than five ounces, in violation of N.J.S.A 2C:35-5B(2), a crime of the 2nd degree; one count of Possession Of A Controlled Dangerous Substance, namely Cocaine, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10A(1), a crime of the 3rd degree; and one count of Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia Associated With The Distribution Of Narcotics, namely a digital scale and numerous unused plastic baggies, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-3, a crime of the 4th degree. BERRY was released on his own recognizance pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
Acting Prosecutor Calo states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and would like to thank the Hackensack Police Department and the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team for their assistance in this investigation.
