The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ridgewood Police Department are requesting information from the public regarding a hit and run collision that resulted in the victim sustaining fatal injuries.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018, the Ridgewood Police Department received a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway on West Ridgewood Avenue near the intersection with Library Place. Upon arrival at the scene of the collision, officers observed a male victim lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The injuries were consistent with having been struck by a motor vehicle. The victim, later identified as Edward Rao, age 54, of Hawthorne, NJ, was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Evidence at the scene and surveillance video recovered from the area indicate that the striking vehicle is a dark colored SUV, but the make and model are unknown. The striking vehicle continued traveling westbound on West Ridgewood Avenue, toward Midland Park, after the collision.
