Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced the arrest of SEAN M. WESTERN (DOB: 9/13/1981; married; and employed as a news associate director) of 20 Virginia Avenue, Dumont, New Jersey on the charges of Possession Of Child Pornography, greater than 100 but less than 1000 files, and Distribution Of Child Pornography, greater than 25 video files. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.
On Friday, November 2, 2018, as a result of an Internet child pornography investigation, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at the residence of Sean M. WESTERN. The investigation had revealed that WESTERN used the Internet to view, possess, and store to distribute approximately 500 digital files depicting nude or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.
On November 2, 2018, Sean M. WESTERN was charged with one count of Distribution Of Child Pornography in an amount greater than 25 video files, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(B)5(A)iii, a 2nd degree crime; and one count of Possession Of Child Pornography in an amount greater than 100 but less than 1,000 files, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4(B)5(B)iii, a 3rd degree crime. WESTERN is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on November 14, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
Acting Prosecutor Calo states that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Acting Prosecutor Calo thanks the Dumont Police Department for their assistance, as well as the Lyndhurst, Oradell, and Paramus Police Departments, which participate in the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.
