DATE: JANUARY 9, 2020

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of DEIBY VALDEZ-SANTOS (DOB: 02/08/1992; single; employed as a landscaper) of 165 E. 112 Street, New York, NY on charges of Eluding and Possession Of Narcotics, and JOSE R. RODRIGUEZ-CASTILLO (DOB: 10/29/1994; single; employed as a mechanic) of 11049 63rd Ave, Forest Hills, NY on a charge of Possession Of Narcotics.  The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2020, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office (“BCPO”) captured two men after a pursuit, which ended when the men’s car crashed off Interstate 80 in Hackensack.  A BCPO detective had pulled over a Honda SUV around 1:00 p.m. on Interstate 80.  When the detective got out of his car, the driver suddenly hit the gas and sped off.  The detective called in the vehicle’s Connecticut license plate, which did not match the car’s registration.  A short time later, another BCPO detective spotted the Honda traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 and tried to pull it over.  However, the driver accelerated and continued driving eastbound.  Out of concern for civilian safety, the detective terminated the pursuit.
DEIBY VALDEZ-SANTOS was charged with one count of Eluding, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2bb, a 2nd degree crime, and one count of Possession Of Marijuana, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10a(4), a disorderly persons offense.  DEIBY VALDEZSANTOS was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

JOSE R. RODRIGUEZ-CASTILLO was charged with one count of Possession Of Marijuana, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10a(4), a disorderly persons offense.  JOSE R. RODRIGUEZ-CASTILLO was released on his own recognizance pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
