LEONEL DEJESUS-ALVARADO OF OAKLAND, NJ CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT BY CONTACT, ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD AND AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONTACT

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of LEONEL DEJESUS-ALVARADO (DOB: 10/9/1983; single; unemployed) of 9-2 Riverside Drive, Oakland, NJ on charges of Sexual Assault By Contact, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Oakland Police Department under the direction of Chief Keith Sanzari.

On Monday, April 20, 2020, the Oakland Police Department received a 911 call from a resident in their jurisdiction that a child under the age of thirteen had been sexually touched at a residence in Oakland, NJ. The Oakland Police responded to the residence and contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Oakland Police Department investigation revealed that LEONEL DEJESUS-ALVARADO sexually touched one juvenile on one occasion and another juvenile on multiple occasions.

As a result of the investigation, on Monday, April 20, 2020, LEONEL DEJESUS-ALVARADO was arrested and charged with one count of Sexual Assault By Sexual Contact, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b, a 2nd degree crime; one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(1), a 2nd degree crime; one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3A, a 3rd degree crime; and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(1), a 3rd degree crime. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Oakland Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
