TYRIEF MARTIN OF JERSEY CITY, NJ CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AND ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of TYRIEF MARTIN (DOB: 05/15/1989; single; unemployed) on two counts of Sexual Assault and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child. The arrest is a result of a joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti, the Rutherford Police Department under the direction of Chief John R. Russo, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton, and the Jersey City Police Department under the direction of Chief Mike Kelly.

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, the Rutherford Police Department received information that TYRIEF MARTIN forcibly sexually assaulted a child under the age of 18 in Rutherford, NJ. The Rutherford Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, and their investigation revealed an additional victim who was sexually assaulted by MARTIN in Rutherford, NJ.

As a result of that investigation, on Friday, April 3, 2020, warrants were issued by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office charging TYRIEF MARTIN with two counts of Sexual Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2C(1), a 2nd degree crime, and one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4A(1), a 2nd degree crime. On April 27, 2020, MARTIN was taken into custody by the Jersey City Police Department and transported by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office to the Bergen County Jail. He is scheduled for his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, May 1, 2020.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the Rutherford Police Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Jersey City Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
