Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JEREMIAH W. HAYDEN (DOB: 8/5/1997; single; unemployed) of 2040 Bruckner Boulevard, Bronx, New York, on charges of Assault By Auto, Possession Of Marijuana, and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Oakland Police Department under the direction of Chief Keith Sanzari.
At approximately 3:34 p.m. on August 5, 2020, the Oakland Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash in front of 231 West Oakland Avenue. At the scene, officers located a 2008 Acura TSX which had struck a 1995 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. The driver of the Acura, JEREMIAH HAYDEN, was uninjured and standing outside of the vehicle. The operator of the motorcycle, a 68-year-old male, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with serious injuries where he remains in stable condition.
The ensuing investigation revealed that HAYDEN was attempting to make a left turn into the driveway of 231 West Oakland Avenue when he failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcycle, which resulted in a head-on collision. The investigation further revealed that HAYDEN was operating the vehicle while under the influence of marijuana.
As a result of the investigation, HAYDEN was charged with one count of Assault By Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a 3rd degree crime; Possession Of Less Than 50 Grams Of Marijuana, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10a(4), a disorderly persons offense; and Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2, a disorderly persons offense. In addition, he was charged with motor vehicle violations for Driving While Intoxicated, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-50; Reckless Driving, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-96; and Failure To Yield Right Of Way, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-90. HAYDEN was issued a Summons and is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, September 18, 2020.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Oakland Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
