DATE: AUGUST 13, 2020

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of CHRISTOPHER SAMBOGNA (DOB: 10/23/1969; single; Sergeant in the Palisades Park Police Department) on a charge of Theft. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation conducted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Palisades Park Police Department under the direction of Officer in Charge Anthony Muccio.

The Palisades Park Police Department received a complaint from a borough resident alleging that Sergeant CHRISTOPHER SAMBOGNA had stolen $10,000 from the resident. Palisades Park Police then contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit regarding the complaint.

As a result of the subsequent investigation, on August 12, 2020, CHRISTOPHER SAMBOGNA was charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking Or Disposition, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3(a), a 3rd degree crime. He was also suspended from his duties as a police officer. SAMBOGNA is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.

Prosecutor Musella states that this charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Palisades Park Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
