For Immediate Release:
February 20, 2025
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of CLYDE JOHNSON, 26, of Queens, NY, on charges of witness tampering, perjury, and false swearing. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
On February 7, 2025, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit were notified of a temporary restraining order that was believed to have been falsely sworn by CLYDE JOHNSON against a witness in an active criminal case against him. An investigation conducted by the Cyber Crimes Unit determined that JOHNSON made false statements to the hearing officer while applying for the temporary restraining order against the witness.
As a result of the investigation, CLYDE JOHNSON was charged with third-degree witness tampering, N.J.S.A 2C:28-5B; third-degree perjury, N.J.S.A 2C:28-1A; and fourth-degree false swearing, N.J.S.A 2C:28-2A. On February 10, 2025, JOHNSON was arrested by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Superior Court.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Bergenfield Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
