Press Releases << SADDLE BROOK POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, TAMPERING WITH PUBLIC RECORDS, AND OBSTRUCTION

For Immediate Release:
July 7, 2026

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 43-year-old ATTILIO DENTE (employed as a Police Officer with the Saddle Brook Police Department) on charges of aggravated assault, tampering with public records, and obstruction. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Confidential Investigations Unit received information from the Saddle Brook Police Department regarding alleged violations of the use-of-force policy by a Saddle Brook Police Officer. An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, ATTILIO DENTE, while attempting to effect an arrest, struck a male party in the head with his firearm, causing bodily injury. The investigation further revealed that DENTE made a false entry on an incident report and intentionally deactivated his body-worn camera while on scene.

As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, ATTILIO DENTE was arrested and charged with third-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2); third-degree tampering with public records, N.J.S.A. 2C:28-7a(1); and fourth-degree obstructing administration of law, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1a. DENTE was released pending further court action.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He thanks the Saddle Brook Police Department for its assistance in this matter.
