Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 64-year-old MIGUEL MEJIA of Teaneck, NJ on charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, child abuse, and refusal to submit to DNA collection. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Teaneck Police Department, under the direction of Chief Andrew McGurr.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Teaneck Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the physical assault of a juvenile. A joint investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department revealed that MIGUEL MEJIA assaulted and endangered a juvenile in Teaneck, NJ. When MEJIA was taken into custody by detectives, he refused to provide a DNA sample, although one was required by law.

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, MIGUEL MEJIA was charged with second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1); second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-2a(2); fourth-degree refusal to submit to DNA collection, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-11; and fourth-degree child abuse, N.J.S.A. 9:6-3. MIGUEL MEJIA was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Teaneck Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
