THREE MEN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH FEBRUARY 2023 ARMED HOME INVASION IN NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of JAZMIR CARTER (DOB: 05/27/1998; single; unemployed) of 1051 Dreher Avenue, Stroudsburg, PA; MICHAEL CARTER (DOB: 09/18/1996; single; unemployed) currently incarcerated at Essex County Jail; and AMEER HOLCOMB (DOB: 08/10/1980; single; unemployed) of 15 Isabella Ave, Newark, NJ, on charges of armed robbery, armed burglary, weapons offenses, aggravated assault, theft, and conspiracy. The arrests are the result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the North Arlington Police Department under the direction of Chief Scott Hedenberg.
On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the North Arlington Police Department received a 911 call reporting a home invasion that occurred at a North Arlington residence. The actors involved posed as Amazon delivery drivers and forced their way into the residence after the homeowner opened the door. The actors struck the homeowner with a handgun and stole cash, sneakers, and jewelry before fleeing the scene. The North Arlington Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad, and a joint investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, JAZMIR CARTER, MICHAEL CARTER, and AMEER HOLCOMB were identified as suspects. On Friday, June 9, 2023, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, along with Special Agents from the FBI Safe Streets/Violent Crimes Task Force executed search warrants and arrest warrants in Newark, NJ and Stroudsburg, PA. All three defendants were arrested without incident.
JAZMIR CARTER and MICHAEL CARTER were each charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2(a)(1)/2C:15-1a(1); second-degree armed burglary; N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2; second-degree conspiracy to commit armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2(a)(1)/2C:18-2; second-degree unlawful possession of weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b;
second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a; second-degree certain person to not possess a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1); third-degree theft by unlawful taking, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a; third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)(2); and fourth-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(4).
JAZMIR CARTER was remanded to the Monroe County Correctional Facility (PA) pending extradition to Bergen County, NJ. MICHAEL CARTER remains in the custody of the Essex County Jail.
AMEER HOLCOMB was charged with first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2(a)(1)/ 2C:15-1a(1); second-degree armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2; second-degree conspiracy to commit armed burglary, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2(a)(1)/2C:18-2; and third-degree theft by unlawful taking, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3a. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
