Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of 22-year-old KHAMERE C. CHAMBERS, and 26-year-old DAVID REID, both of Paterson, NJ, on charges stemming from an armed robbery investigation. The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Garfield Police Department, under the direction of Chief Joseph Delaney.

On Sunday, March 1, 2026, at approximately 12:33 a.m., the Garfield Police Department responded to the area of Monroe Street and Palisade Avenue on the report of an armed robbery. It was determined that two victims were walking with a group of acquaintances on Monroe Street, after leaving the area of a local establishment, when they were approached by two masked suspects who brandished firearms and demanded their belongings. One of the victims was robbed of their car keys, wallet, and approximately twenty dollars in cash. The suspects subsequently fled the scene on foot.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad was notified, initiating a joint investigation with the Garfield Police Department. The ensuing investigation, which included an extensive canvass of the surrounding neighborhood for physical evidence and video surveillance footage, revealed that the two suspects had ultimately fled in a white colored Infiniti Q60.
During the investigation that followed, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Garfield Police Department were ultimately able to identify the two suspects who committed the armed robbery in Garfield as KHAMERE C. CHAMBERS and DAVID REID.

Accordingly, on April 16th, 2026, with the assistance of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the Garfield Police Department executed court-authorized search warrants at a residence in Montvale, NJ, a residence in Paterson, NJ, and a white Infiniti Q60, all associated with CHAMBERS. Subsequently, CHAMBERS was taken into custody without incident. Detectives recovered clothing that matched the description of one of the armed suspects in the armed robbery in Garfield, as well as a defaced handgun containing a large-capacity ammunition magazine.

KHAMERE C. CHAMBERS was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5j; second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); two-counts of second-degree certain persons not to possess a firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1); fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b (4); fourth-degree possession of a defaced firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3d; and fourth-degree possession of a large capacity ammunition magazine, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3j. CHAMBERS was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, where he remains in custody, pending trial.

On Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, with the assistance of New Jersey State Parole, DAVID REID was taken into custody by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Garfield Police Department, without incident. REID was charged with two counts of first-degree armed robbery, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1a(1); first-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5j; second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5b(1); second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4a(1); second-degree certain persons not to possess a firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-7b(1); and fourth-degree aggravated assault by pointing a firearm, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b (4). REID was lodged at the Bergen County Jail, pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella thanks the Garfield Police Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, the Paterson Police Department, New Jersey State Parole, and the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team for their coordination and assistance in this investigation.
